And there exists Absolutes

Sometimes I wonder if anything’s absolute anymore. Is there still right and wrong? Good and bad? Truth and lies? Or is everything negotiable, left to interpretation, grey?

I question the world and I question it frequently. I won’t argue that. But I strongly believe I have a reason to do so, unanswered questions that compel me to. Many a times I wonder whether people still believe in the truth, the truth that may be harsher than the harshest words, truth that may paint a picture of such negativity that the world seems completely unfair but also the truth that shows you the true picture, that does not disappoint, the one that cannot be changed in the moment.

No one promised you the world would be a happy place, that it will not test your spirit, your beliefs and your capacity. No one said that it will be a bed of thorn less roses. Life is not about being on a newly developed highway, life is about understanding the negatives, still hoping for the positive. Life is about taking on the challenge and defeating the reason that could be the reason for your defeat. Life is about understanding that if you are not true to yourself, you cannot be true to anyone.

The world is slowly becoming all about convenience, about the easy way out. People look for the narrow lane, the loophole they can take to advance. The white lie that will get them out of a sticky situation, the bribe that will save them some time. There is nothing wrong with finding a shorter way out, but does one need to forget the basics while doing so? The good and the bad, the right and the wrong, the truth and the lies. There is always going to be a right way to do something and a wrong way to do it too. You may debate the two out and tell me about a middle ground which you call the ‘grey area’ but then again you use it because it is convenient. Because it is too much of an effort to go on the right path and it has negative repercussions if you go on the wrong. You call it grey because it is safe, easy and less troublesome.

Life does not need to be negotiated, life is what you want it to be, life is on your terms, because your life is what is truly your own. No one has a right over it and no one but you can lose the right to it. Circumstances are almost never ideal, choices are not always right but what you make out of those is what will hold stead in the times to come. Is life about passing through the journey or is it about cherishing the journey when you stand at the end? You may take the right ground or the wrong one, you make choose to side with the truth or with the lies, but at least you have a ground; you have a belief you support.

I am no where saying there is an absolute truth or there is an absolute bad, that is a debate for another time, all I say is there does and must exist a distinction between the good and the bad, the noble and the evil, the truth and the lies, the right and the wrong.

Life is all about the choices you make, it is about the path you choose, the way you fight back. Life is about the beliefs you cherish and treasure, the ones that make you, you. A life without an absolute is a like a life on a path always unsure.

Your post is interesting. Yesterday on Ganesh Chaturthi I went to temple and there was a swami doing pravachan on similar topic. He said there are three important J's; jeev, jagat and jagdish.

Jeev means oneself, we should know ourself, find out the truth about ourselves. Ghandhiji said he spent a lifetime trying to find out what is the truth about life? The jeev can only be happy when he has purpose in life, not to please itself but to please the other's...the jagat. He said a swami was once asked if he would like to go to vaikunth and he said no. When asked why? He said in vaikunth Lord Vishnu resides in the middle of an ocean, how can I do satsang there when no one can swim to reach me...this can be seen as how can I serve the humanity if I or the humanity cannot reach me. The pleasures and joys of life are short lived, they fade from memories faster too. The sorrow are painful, leave a lasting impression. The good and bad, joy and sorrow, everything goes in pair, without it there would be no such thing as life...we would be living life as robot. To struggle is to better ones self. To find an easy way out is to diminish our capabilities.

shruti i think this is a slightly confused post. maybe thats not a bad thing, considering the topic area, but your thoughts though clear to you change a little from para to para. but as always, i'm sure you have given all your readers food for thought and although i would love to argue with you, cause i firmly do not believe in absolutes, i won't, because i believe in the writer, you, too.

I agree it is a confused post. It was meant to be in a way. We don't always have answers but we do have questions that arise. This is one of those. I know how i feel about certain things, I know the right and wrong in my perception, but I can't figure out the ways of the world in respect to the topic area I have written on.

Surprised i am that there are others too on this planet who try to find the truth behind the truth...I thought im the only one who thinks in cosmic terms...First of all...all answers related to truth, good and evil, purpose of life, existence of God and other similar questions is hidden in you...Gautam buddha wandered from place to place in search of truth but didn't find...Finally he sat under a tree closed his eyes...Searched deeper inwards and found the truth behind the truth..Buddha was a prince, had a beautiful wife and a child...He was happy...1 day he went out n saw...First a youth who appeared cheerful..Then he saw a sick old man who looked frail and unhappy...Further he saw a dead man who looked pale and motionless..He was told that a person has energy n ability in young age so he is cheerful, however when he grows older he loses his strength and importance so he appears sad...And finally he dies and life comes to an end...Further he was told that this is the cycle that everyone has to undergo...Even him...Buddha became worried thinking that he too would have too undergo that inevitable process and wud become frail and sad as he grows older...Suddenly he saw a saint..He was old too and so should have been sad and worried as per the rule of lifecycle..But surprisingly he was happy and carefree..Now buddha became highly confused..On being asked he was told that the saint was happy despite his old age bcoz he has renounced the world..And possesses nothing, so he has no insecurity,no desire, fear or expectations...In short he has broken the vicious cycle of life and is now free like a bird out of the cage...Buddha found the hint so he too broke his cage by renouncing all wordly things...However he was still clueless as to why we live..If its predecided that every person has to undergo the stages of life then what is the use of living...I mean if shruti chopra knows that after these many years she wud become old and then die without any way to escape then what is the use of living..And how is she different from others who too are destined for the same cycle of life..U might say that the purpose is to have name fame and success... buddha had all this but he was still unhappy...Bill gates and Obama are successful but they r not the happiest..So why are we living...What is the truth behind life...The truth is that life is an opportunity to identify...Find out...feel and liberate our true self that is hidden or lies dormant inside our body or our worldly self...See everyperson has two aspects: a physical self whose life is max 100 yrs...The 2nd aspect is spiritual self or the soul which lives till eternity...But how blind are we that we never think abt our trueself or our eternal self and are entirely concerned about our physicalself...The truth is...Life is a mission a challenge to find a diamond in a coalmine...Physical self is the coalmine which hides the diamond that is ur soul..But how wud shruti b able to find that diamond...Since the ur soul lies within u and the only person who can travel and search in ur innerself is u and only u...The longest journey for a person is the journey inwards...Contact me on yourfriendnavin@gmail.com
